Serious tips for job interviews
|
I've been trying to persuade my Mrs to move out of London for a while and have got a job interview in a week's time near where I want to move to. I reckon that will be the clincher with the move. However, most of the jobs I've got have been through contacts rather than through formal job applications... I've always been great at applications but shit at interviews.
It's a contract compliance type job... I can answer all the technical questions, that's a piece of cake, just shit at selling myself.
Any (serious) suggestions?

Ask - where's the nearest pub and betting shop?
Seriously if it a contract, just don't say too much, say yes i did that in my last role repeatedly, good luck.

When I was asked "What is your weakness?" "My honesty" I replied "Honesty is not really a weakness" said the interviewer "I don't give a fuck about what you think" I replied.

Talk about your loyalty to companies?
what you have actually achieved, what you made a difference to etc
it's not hard... why should they hire you instead of Joe Bloggs

Mimic the interviewer. Posture, speech etc.
If they start using what you would call key words, use the same phrases in your answers, boost there ego.
Also if you are feeling proper ballsy, just as you finish the interview, ask the interviewer for feedback. If you sort of know its gone well then the interviewer will explain all the good points of it, leaving them with the memory of the interview being excellent as its the last thing they will say to or about you.

Ok so some serious suggstions.
Hard as it may be - RELAX. If you are relaxed and chatty then they will warm to you.
Know your CV. Most interviewers will ask at least some questions around your CV. The poorer interviewers will base most of their questions around it and some may ask you to talk through it. Be prepared for this and try and put it across in an interesting way, don't just read it or say exactly what they would already have read anyway.
When talking about previous employment, be positive. Even if it was a shitty job that you hated, you can be honest, but put a positive spin on it, point oiut things you learnt from the experience.
When answering questions, try and give examples that back the answer up. A good interviewer will ask for examples, but you'll look good if you give them without being asked.
I am shocked by the amount of people that I interview that know very little about the company or the role they are interviewing for - make sure you research the company (not just their website) and show that you did this by comments within answers.
Remember that they want you to do well, nothing more frustrating than spending an hour interviewing someone that you know isn't right for the job - so think of them as being on your side and not trying to trip you up. The more you relax the more they'll believe they are seeing the real you which will give them confidence.
what is the role for and who will be interviewing you?

be prepared to talk about your career and what you have achieved. how did you achieve these things?
how do you work in or manage a team??
how do you manage your time and priorities??
how would you deal with poor performance on your team?
research the comany you are seeing. know why you want to ork there. dotn slag off previous employers.
be passionate, calm and concise.

Relax, people get hired if they are likable, just be positive, friendly & focus on what makes you right for the job.
Also get some questions written down before you go in, show knowledge & an interest in the industry, company & people you are hoping to work for.
Good luck.
